Prevention – the best investment in healthcare
Prevention – the best investment in healthcare

Under the auspice of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia, 34th International Fair of Medicine will be held form 15 – 17 October at Belgrade Fair. MEDIDENT, which is held this year with the slogan "For Healthier Living" will be hosting more than 100 exhibitors from the country and abroad, showcasing equipment, devices and medical treatments for experts and audience.

All details referring to this event were presented to journalists in the City Centre for Urgent Medical Health on a well attended and attractive press conference, packed with useful information.

Announcing MEDIDENT as the event gathering professionals and venue for promoting innovations in medical technology and modern approach to treatments, Andjelko Trpkovic, General Manager of Belgrade Fair, said that this Fair is yet another opportunity to present Belgrade Fair as the socially responsible company:

"A year ago, Belgrade Fair gave the incentive for the purchase of a mobile mammograph, while this year the mammograph will be in the use for all visitors coming to the Fair. It is only one among many important events at 34th International Fair of Medicine and Dentristry, while the very image of MEDIDENT was created with the help of the Ministry of Health RS, Institute for Oncology and Radiology and the City Centre for Urgent Medical Health."

Dr. Tomislav Stanisic, State Secretary in the Ministry of Health:

"The Fair is an outstanding venue for exhibiting medical equipment but also the opportunity for the exchange of know-how. The health technology is rapidly advancing and I can say that we have daily requirements for the approval of the new technologies and equipment. Our activities at the Medicine Fair will be marked by the four campaings – Serbia Against Cancer, Prevention of Smoking, Healthy Diet and Prevention and Control of Cardiovascular Diseases."

"It is not unusual that the Urgent Medical Help is actively participating at the International Fair of Medicine, since its activity is preventive and with the key role in the system of healthcare. It has a good dynamics of  reforming, covered  with a 10 million euro project, leading this institution to fast development – standardization of medical staff and non-meducal staff, equipment and services. This is an opportunity to appeal to the corporative responsibility since every kind of help is significant to us and it is certain that the budget funds are not enough  for the required level of medical healthcare."

Prof. Dr. Zoran Rakocevic, Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia:

"Fight againts cancer is the Fair campaign, to us it is a daily work, we are constantly fighting against this disease, since one thousand of patients pass through our three hospitals and four ambulances each day. We were eager to respond to the Belgrade Fair invitation, as one of the donors, and put into use the digital mammograph during this event, for free screening to all the visitors."

"The significance of preventive check-ups is best showed by the numbers. In four months 3.600 women went through the check-up, out of 2.100 described check-ups 5 patients were diagnosed with malignant disease, while 40 were diagnosed as most probable. The most important is to make diagnosis in an early stage when the possibilities for the cure are realistic and ceratin, not to neglect the huge savings of the entire healthcare system. When the cancer is less than 1cm, the treatment costs are several thousand euros, if the cancer had spread to 2-2,5cm or more, the treatment costs are several tens of thousands of euros and are likely to rise to one hundred thousand. The importance of prevention is proved by the fact that the screening cost of 3.600 patients, amounted to forty thousand euros."

Dr. Med.Snezana Petrovic, Assistant Director of the City Centre for Urgent Medical Help:

"In addition to the state-of-the-art ambulance vehicles which will be presented at the International Fair of Medicine, the two of our teams will present daily demonstrations and first aid exercises and reanimation.  We shall also present a cardiovascular defibrilator which is easy to use by everyone and can be used for giving help to people with cardiac disorders. The device is used in the first minutes which is important for further recovery, until the arrival of the ambulance, although I have to point out that the average arrival time of our teams to the site is 12 minutes, according to which we fit into the World and European standards.
MEDIDENT will be an opportunity to educate the citizens that the Urgent Medical Help is not dialed for no reason at all, since it might be needed to the people at another place. All cases which do not require urgent help will be transfered to the number giving medical advice which is also of great help, of which citizens will be timely informed."
